A cry to my sister by Sam

I have a sister who is suffering depression and also been diagnosed with a personality disorder. She has five children who all love her dearly and a husband that worships the ground she walks on. So how can things be so bad? I ask myself that constantly.

She has been in and out of the mental health unit at our local hospital for nearly 12 months now. All that seems to happen in the hospital is that she is dosed up on Valium to keep her calm. After a few days she is out. Then she is on the vicious merry-go-round :- back into hospital, more Valium then let out again. She has slit her wrists many times. Her arms are a mess. She has overdosed many times also. I don't believe she really wants to die but believe that it is a call for help. However, when her closest family tries to help her, she turns us away! Why is that? Can anyone enlighten me? She only likes doctors that tell her what she wants to hear.

I read one of the stories on here about a girl whose father suicided. She made the valid point of saying "How can you help someone when they don't want to help themselves?" That is exactly where my sister is at it would appear.

There are so many people that love her. She is highly intelligent and a great mum.

I know there is not a miracle cure or pill out there. I wish there were.

Please, my dear sister, stop turning people who love you away. We are there to help. That is what you need. Love doesn't cost a thing..... We may not be experts but we know you through and through....

Don't give up!!
