Welcome
Welcome to the first depressioNet.com.au newsletter. This is very exciting for us – the positive response from health care professionals and people with
depression has been great.
Keep your feedback and suggestions for improvement coming in so we can make this site everything that it needs to be!
Introducing Dr Catherine Delin
Dr Catherine Delin will be putting together answers to frequently asked questions and managing our research section including sourcing relevant research
articles for depressioNet.com.au.
The type of questions Dr Delin will be covering are 'How do I know if I have depression?', 'What is the difference between psychologists and psychiatrists?"
etc.
Dr Delin is a registered psychologist in SA, a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and holds honorary positions at two South Australian
universities.
She has a very strong background in research within psychology, has taught and supervised students for more than 2 decades and has a long standing
interest in the efficacy of different therapies for depression. In addition, Dr Delin has over 20 years experience in her own psychological practice.
Welcome aboard!
Help in your area – a beginning…
One of the most important aspects of depressioNet.com.au is ensuring that we have help available when people need it. Registered health care professionals
are listed under "Help in your area".
Melbourne Help in Your Area is now live with 4 psychologists listed.
ACT and NSW are also ready to go live next week.
Support and community groups are also a valuable resource – if you know of any support groups for people with depression -
let us know!
Advertising
Advertising the site is critical as our aim is to let people know we are here to help!!!
Melbourne advertising has commenced with the following:
Radio ads on 3MP
Community Service Announcements on Fox FM
Radio ads on Southern FM (community radio)
Radio interview at Southern FMRepresentation at Depression 2000 in Queensland – scheduled 4th to 7th August. See our link to the official site for more
information about the conference.
Quotes from our Message Board
In our first 4 weeks we have over 1500 hits to the site! And this is before we commenced advertising to let people know the site was there.
There is obviously a need for this site as indicated in the quotes below:
"This is the first useful site that isn't American…."
"It was nice to get a reply. I know I am probably one of hundreds of people who feel this way and I can sit and talk to my friends about it but it isn't the
same unless they have experienced it too…"
"I'm new to this site and I think its great. I am currently going through a depressive stage in my life and need all the support I can get."
"This page looks like it is exactly what I've been looking for especially with an online chatroom for anyone who wants/needs to talk…"
