TERRY OLESEN

Registered
Psychologist

Specialises in:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Other mood disorders
  • Individual therapy in the treatment of these
  • Hello, my name is Terry Olesen. I work as a Registered Psychologist.  I currently coach individuals and groups in methods of recovery from depression and mood disorders (anxiety, panic, negative thinking).

My main approach to depression is planned, solution-focussed counselling. This means I give my depressed clients an initial 1.5-2 hour assessment and chat so I can get a clear understanding of their depression- since every depression is unique.

I then employ evidence-based forms of counselling including Interpersonal Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Systemic Family Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I also employ coaching in helping clients modify their lifestyle, diet and exercise.

I am qualified to do this work; I earned my Master's Degree in Psychology from Claremont Graduate University and recently completed over 200 hours of supervised practice in the various therapies above. I am an Associate Member (Assoc MAPS) of the Australian Psychological Society.

I know depression firsthand having had a serious life threatening episode of it during 1982-83. Fortunately I sought help through some very gifted and caring allied health professionals in Canada at the time. I am a survivor who now wants to help others.

If you are feeling that all is lost, don't give up! 'Every journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single step' is my recommendation to you.
