Specialising in:
As a registered nurse, counsellor and psychologist I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults. The focus of my work is clinical psychology and I have worked in this capacity in hospitals and private practice. My experience in the field of mental health spans 20 years and during the past 10 years I have worked in my own private practice, recently relocating my practice to Camberwell (Burwood). I focus my work toward the treatments of trauma as I consider the whole of life is about surviving the experiences that life brings to us. At the centre of all our negative life experiences are the emotions we have that are left unvalidated by others. I believe recovery from trauma, loss, grief, depression is based on regaining a sense of control through identifying, understanding and managing the emotions that impact on good mental and physical health. I believe that once our very real emotions, related to our negative life events are both validated, understand and managed we again become the masters in our life. As an outcome of mastering ourselves, our depression and anxieties generally lose the tight grip they have on our lives. The goals of therapy are met in many ways and therapy is specifically structured to meet the specific needs of the individual. Specialising in the treatment of complex trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) my clients are assured of the utmost compassion and care. Nevertheless developing the ability to cope better with life and trauma is woven sensitively and respectfully throughout therapy. Because the development of depression and/or anxiety can be related to any type of size of life event a thorough assessment and full clinical diagnosis is provided for each client. This full diagnosis and assessment is achieved through a collaborative therapeutic relationship and so therapy focus to the presenting issues is continually maintained. Over the years I have enjoyed watching them achieve confidence about life, control and self management in rebuilding their lives after depression.
