Every human being faces difficulty at some stage in their life. It is not an admission of failure when we realise something is missing.  It is the first step towards finding what we need to have a satisfying and fulfilling life.

If you are reading this you are probably depressed.  You may be feeling flat, have low emotional energy or be sad with maybe knowing why or maybe not. You might not even know how you feel anymore.

You will probably be thinking along these lines:

  • I am unsure of how to get out my situation
  • I am stuck, unable to go on
  • What difference is talking about it going to make?
  • Why is this happening to me?
  • Why should I try when I have already tried so hard already?
  • My problems are too big or too hard to solve
  • Its all my fault and I deserve this

Labels like 'depression' can be helpful because if you recognise that the label applies to you in some way, then you can get on with the business of getting some help.  Good psychological help is very important if you want things to change.  Remember just because depression has happened to you this does not mean that you asked to become depressed.

If you are reading this because you care about someone else who is depressed, please feel free to print off this information for them and talk with them about your hopes for them.  You are also welcome to contact me directly.

Some Information About My Background And Approach To Helping You

I aim to be as caring, constructive an intelligent as possible in my efforts with clients.  I draw upon humanistic, solution oriented and cognitive behavioural approaches to psychological counselling and therapy.  We know that treatments that focus on simply going over endless details about your past, without talking about solutions and how you interpret things, are not the most effective. We need to know about the hurt but not focus on it.  It is important to work with your therapist to build a future for yourself that will work for you by carefully moving the focus on to your strengths and resources.  It will also be important for you to learn skills to deal with your situation.

I generally don't spend a lot of time getting you to talk about the past.  I have a practical focus.  I will listen to what you are concerned about but not just listen.  It may take a bit of time to turn things around but the effort is worthwhile and it is not all effort once you get started.

People who are depressed often have other issues and concerns in life.  I have assisted many people who have been seriously unhappy, affected by very low motivation and other depression type problems.

Many of these people have also had:

  • career and work issues
  • difficulties in family and/or personal relationships
  • stress, worries, anxiety
  • problems that need solving

I am a psychologist. Over the past fifteen years I have worked in a number of different settings.

These have included:

  • a counselling and coaching private practice which I have maintained over the last twelve years
  • drug and alcohol counselling
  • relationship counselling
  • rehabilitation counselling; where psychological and physical health affects what an individual can do with their career, relationships, and life generally
