I have 25 years of experience in the human services field, both in community health and private practice. Over this time, I have developed considerable experience of and expertise in working with men and women on relationship issues, changing life circumstances such as divorce, bereavement or career changes and the effect of past experiences of abuse and bullying on present day life. I have specialised in assisting people who have problems handling anger or anxiety - areas where depression is often present. Frequently, people come to counselling because they are troubled by their experience of intense emotions such as anxiety, rage or depression, with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness and distress about the effect their behaviour has on others around them.

I work in a variety of ways to suit the requirements of individuals, for example, one to one counseling, family or group work. I endeavour to provide a service for people that is:

Encouraging yet challenging
Provides material for improved self awareness and understanding
Focuses on understanding the occurrence of strong intense emotions
Identifies and explores patterns of thinking and behaviour.
Teaches practical management skills.

I provide support and use therapies that offer people the chance to change the ways they perceive and react to memories, daily experiences or new traumatic or uncomfortable events. Individuals are also assisted to change patterns of thinking that don’t let them function to the best of their ability and to improve ways to cope with life’s various demands.
