Jane Gierlicz - Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinically trained psychologist, a Member of the Australian and British Psychological Societies.  At present, I work both in private practice, and for Melbourne Health.  In my private work, the difficulties I have helped people overcome include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety, including: Panic Disorder, Social Phobia, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Health Anxiety (Hypochondriasis)
  • Post Traumatic Stress problems
  • Grief
  • Early abuse – sexual, physical and emotional
  • Eating Disorders
  • Family problems and crises
  • Pain Management

I also run groups for people with Social Phobia.  Recently, I have become involved in training health professionals in the management of anxiety disorders.  Previously, I have worked in the United Kingdom on Community Mental Health Teams.

In my work with people, I use a Cognitive Behavioural approach; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, has been around for about 50 years.  Very simply this type of therapy focuses on how a person's thinking (cognitions) influence their feelings, and their behaviour.  I have found this approach very useful to help people overcome depression, as well as other difficulties, such as anxiety, which are often associated with depression.

I am happy to speak to prospective clients on the phone prior to arranging an initial appointment to answer questions or to explain in more detail my work.

Sharryn Muir - Clinical Psychologist

I am a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in assessment and treatment of a wide range of Psychological disorders and difficulties.  I have worked for over seven years in private practice treating hundreds of clients.  I have supported and assisted people to overcome and manage their difficulties, which often include a significant component of depression.

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT).  I have training and experience in this approach and find it very helpful in overcoming people’s difficulties.  Extensive research has repeatedly shown its effectiveness for conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders.  My approach is very practical whereby the client is given a lot of information, handouts and tasks to assist in establishing more helpful ways of thinking about situations and helpful activities and things to do.

In addition to counselling, I do public seminars for sufferers of anxiety.

I am happy to speak with anyone who is considering counselling over the telephone prior to making an appointment to discuss my experience or approach further.

Vanessa Carty - Registered Psychologist

I am a registered Psychologist with a Masters degree in Clinical and Health Psychology.  I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society.  I have worked for many years with children, adolescents and adults suffering from depression.  I have worked in the UK and Australia in child and adolescent mental health settings as well as with adults in psychiatric services and counselling centres.  I am committed to helping young people intervene with depression early, so that problems later in life can be prevented.  I work within a cognitive behavioural therapy framework.  This has been found to have good effectiveness in working with adults and young people in treating depression and associated problems.  It provides people with practical tools they can use to help overcome their depression. Parents can also use this model to assist their children in overcoming depression.
