CRISIS LINES

  • Emergency Services – 000 Ambulance, Police, Fire 

  • Lifeline - 131114 – Free anonymous 24/7 generalist counselling that does not discriminate.
  • Suicide Call Back Service - 1300 659 467 - 10am to 8:30pm everyday - Referral line for people at risk of suicide, people caring for someone who is suicidal or people bereaved by suicide. Service offers six sessions of 50 minute telephone counselling over a period of up to six months.

    Confidential 24/7 telephone counselling, support and referral

  • Centre Against Sexual Assault (Victoria) - 1800 806 292 -24/7 - Free confidential emergency or crisis care service for victim/survivors who have recently been sexually assaulted. This includes crisis counsellingsupport and may include access to medical care and legal processes.
     
  • Direct Line - 03 9416 1818 or (freecall) 1800 888 236- 24/7 Assessment, counselling, referral and information services for drug and alcohol issues.

  • Emergency After Hours Respite Service - 1800 727 280- 5:00 pm-8.30am, Mon - Fri.; 24 hours on weekends and public holidays - Emergency respite service for carers of frail older persons, or an adult or child with a disability – Southern metropolitan Melbourne.

  • Kids Help Line - 1800 55 1800 - For young people aged 5-25; free, confidential and anonymous counselling.

  • Women's Domestic Violence Crisis Service of Victoria - 9373-0123 or (country) 1800 015 188. 24/7 - Crisis support, information, referral to safe accommodation (refuge) for women experiencing abuse in
    their relationships.

  • Telephone Interpreter - 131450
    All languages and fees charged to the service provider.

  • Psychiatric Triage (information, assessment and referral) 24 hours, 7 days a week. Telephone: 1300 558 862.

  • Child Protection Crisis Line – 131278-  24 hour crisis line providing assistance and
    support in the area of child abuse.

  • Family Drug Helpline - 1300 660 068- 24/7 - Professional counselling and peer support
    for family and friends of drug users.

  • Gamblers Help -1800 156 789 - 24/7 information support for people affected by gambling.

  • Gay and Lesbian Switchboard - (03) 9827.8544 or 1800631493- Counsellors are available daily from 6pm until 10pm, andWednesdays from 2pm until 10pm. To speak to a trained counsellor call 03 9827 8544 (metropolitan area) or 1800 184 527 (Country Victoria).

  • Griefline - (03) 9596 7799 - 12 noon to 3 am, 7 days a week - Telephone counselling service
    for anyone experiencing loss or grief.

  • OCD & Anxiety Helpline – 9886 9377 - 10am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday - Counselling, support,
    information and referral advice to people with anxiety disorders and those who care for them.

  • LegalAid Victoria - 9269 0120 or 1800 677 402 (country callers) - 8:45am to 5:45pm Monday to Friday - Free legal information in English and 14 other languages.

  • Nurses on Call - 1300 606 024 - 24/7– Care and expert health advice from registered nurses.

  • Parentline - 132 289 - 8am to 12pm Monday to Friday, 10am-10pm weekends- Confidential telephone counselling service aimed at providing professional counselling and support for parents and all who have the care of children.

  • Maternal and Child Health Line - 132 229 (including country callers) 24/7 Information, support and advice regarding child health, maternal and family health and parenting issues provided by qualified child and health nurses.

  • Men's Referral Service - No to Violence - (03) 9428 2899 - Free Call 1800 065 973 - 12 noon to 9pm, Mon to Fri - Anonymous and confidential telephone service provided for men who are wanting to stop their violent or abusive behaviour towards their family members

  • Mens Line Australia – 1300 79 88 79- 24/7 Counselling, information and referral for all men and all issues

  • Mental Health Legal Centre Inc. - 9629 4422 or (Country Callers) 1800 555 887 - 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm Monday Wednesday or Friday -Telephone advice and referral, direct advocacy - in some cases, education and general inquiries about mental health and the law for
    consumers in Victoria.

Around the clock online peer support for you to talk about depression in a safe, supportive and anonymous environment  depressioNet provides information, help and peer support to people in the community impacted by depression. The peer support service is facilitated through an email service, message boards and live chat.
Peer Support at depressioNet operates 24 hours a day, please remember that we are not a professional mental health service and cannot provide emergency assistance.
