The Darkness

I dream of being someone else
that's normal and secure.
Without the limitations
that people like me endure.
I yearn for the freedom
from these feelings I engage.
Become a bird that's liberated,
not living in a cage
Loneliness is my jailer
and darkness fills my days.
My heart and mind are frozen
as I search through the haze.
In the quest for my salvation
and the feeling that I belong.
Find my place in this world
and endeavor to be strong.
Depression is my enemy
it's like a raging storm
I'll ride the wild winds
while I wait for it to transform
To something less formidable,
something I control
Reclaiming life's true essence
and peacefulness for my soul
